Louise Marley: "Mozart's Blood"

Title: Mozart’s Blood (stand-alone novel published by Kensington) (HIS, Romantic Suspense)
Ratings: V-4, S-4, H-1

Octavia Voss is a 200-year-old vampire and a world-renowned opera soprano.  The story follows Octavia as she rehearses for a performance of Mozart’s Don Giovanni at La Scala in Milan. Interspersed with scenes from the present are flashbacks of Octavia’s past lives: as Teresa, the young singer who is bitten by a vampiric countess; as Helene, who survives the 1906 San Francisco earthquake; and as Vivian, who must disappear from an Australian opera house before her real identity is revealed.

Also part of the story is the werewolf, Ughetto (Ugo), Octavia’s friend and protector. Flashbacks to Ugo’s life tell the sad story of his terrible childhood as a failed castrato who eked out a rough life on the streets of Italy, unable to control his inner wolf. Now, a villain has discovered the secret lives that Ugo and Octavia thought they had hidden so well, and both of them are in mortal danger.  The "blood" of the title is the key to the whole plot, and the ending satisfactorily takes care of the villain. The ratings of 4 in violence and sensuality are more for scenes of bloodlust than for graphic sex.

Marley has written a number of futuristic and fantasy novels as well as a science fiction series: THE SINGERS OF NEVYA (Fairwood Press, 2009).
